George Street Playhouse, located nearby, is a fully professional, nationally recognized regional theatre presenting a five show season from October through May. Founded in 1974, the Playhouse has been well represented by numerous productions both on and off-Broadway. The Playhouse’s season is made up of a wide variety ranging from farce to thought-provoking contemporary drama to musicals. Called “the #1 Place to See Live Theatre,” by Upstage Magazine, the intimate 350-seat auditorium offers full views of the stage from every angle. The theatre is home to Broadway-caliber artists and designers, who include Tyne Daly, Marlo Thomas, Chita Rivera, Amy Irving, Jack Klugman, and many others.
